Bank AI is regulated by use case, not by technology. Credit scoring is the most constrained (binding EU AI Act obligations plus US adverse-action and fair-lending law); AML and fraud are the most encouraged; generative and agentic AI are the least settled. Each section below is a question-and-answer: which authorities have spoken on that use case, and which document is the one to read.
Which rules govern AI credit scoring and underwriting?
Creditworthiness models are the most heavily regulated bank AI use case: explicitly high-risk under the EU AI Act, and subject to adverse-action, fair-lending and model-risk requirements in the US.
