What is Plaid's AI strategy?
Plaid's AI strategy is to turn the bank-connection network it built into what it calls a financial intelligence layer, and to be the connection AI assistants use to reach people's bank accounts. CEO Zach Perret said in June 2025 that in five years he wants Plaid known as "the analytics platform for financial services or the data platform for financial services", and that Plaid becomes "much more relevant" if agents handle banking, because agents still need verified identity and aggregated account data. In February 2026 Plaid said it had built its first transaction foundation model, trained on de-identified data across the Plaid Network, and called what it is building "both an intelligence layer and a trust layer" for agentic experiences. By October 2026 its sequential foundation model ran inside LendScore Arc, Signal and the Cash Advance Index. CTO Will Robinson told NYSE Live at Money20/20 in October 2026 that Plaid is entering a phase centered on making sense of data, with models trained on financial data rather than general-purpose large language models. Internally, Plaid's engineering blog said in May 2026 that 80% of its pull requests were generated with AI tools, about 90% of its code. Plaid's AI-companies page says 800+ AI companies build with it. Plaid is private and publishes no annual report, AI budget or revenue by product.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

Who leads AI at Plaid, which providers does it use, and what is not disclosed?
Plaid's AI story is told by its chief executive and chief technology officer: Perret frames the strategy and CTO Will Robinson presented it at Money20/20 in October 2026. The engineering adoption program is written up by Plaid engineers, including Clay Allsopp, who authored both the May 2025 and May 2026 posts.[1][4][7][5]
Plaid's AI-companies page says it works with model providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic and Mistral through integrations like MCP servers, and lists "Run agentic commerce" with bank transfers among what AI companies can do with Plaid, alongside 800+ AI companies building with it and 12,000+ banks and financial institutions on Plaid.[6]
Plaid argues its models need its own data: the February 2026 post says effective financial models require "real financial data at scale" and feedback loops grounded in real outcomes, and that fraud is easier to see across the network than inside one institution.[2]
What is not disclosed: an AI budget or AI headcount, which vendors' models power Hamilton and its developer tools, revenue from AI-company customers, and independent validation of model results, which come from Plaid's own tests. As a private company Plaid files no annual report with AI risk factors.[5][6][3]

What is Plaid's AI strategy?
To move from connecting financial accounts to interpreting the data that flows through them. Plaid trains its own foundation models on de-identified network data, puts them inside fraud, payment-risk and credit products, and supplies the account connections AI assistants use, which it describes as an intelligence layer and a trust layer for agentic finance.
What has Zach Perret said about AI agents?
In a June 2025 PYMNTS interview Perret said Plaid becomes much more relevant if agents handle banking, because agents acting for a human still need verified identity and aggregated data from many accounts. He also acknowledged a big trust gap between people and agents in finance.
How much of Plaid's code is written by AI?
Plaid's engineering blog said in May 2026 that 80% of its pull requests were generated with AI tools, representing around 90% of its code, and that 20% came from Hamilton, its internal cloud-based coding agent. A year earlier, more than 75% of engineers used advanced AI coding tools regularly.
Which AI model providers does Plaid work with?
Plaid's AI-companies page names OpenAI, Anthropic and Mistral as model providers it works with through integrations such as MCP servers. Its developer toolkit works with Cursor, Claude Code and Windsurf, and its MCP for data partners works with Claude, Cursor and Codex.
Does Plaid disclose AI spending?
No. Plaid is private and publishes no annual report, so there is no AI budget, AI headcount or AI risk-factor disclosure. Its public record on AI is product announcements, engineering blog posts and executive interviews, with model results drawn from Plaid's own testing.
