What is Deutsche Bank's AI strategy, and how does it reach the US bank?
Deutsche Bank sets its AI strategy at group level in Frankfurt and published unusually specific targets at its November 17, 2025 Investor Deep Dive: an AI-enabled operating model by 2028 with agentic AI deployed front-to-back in the Private Bank, 15 core banking platforms cut to 2, about €600 million of technology spend for €300 million of run-rate savings, 30% less manual KYC time and more than 80% of inbound inquiries assisted by conversational AI. The Corporate Bank, which houses the US trust and agency business, plans more than €1.4 billion of technology spend to 2028 with 100% of core processing systems AI-enabled; the Investment Bank targets 100% AI-enabled engineers. CEO Christian Sewing told the May 2026 AGM that AI 'is evolving at a much faster pace than originally anticipated', and technology chief Bernd Leukert said in April 2026 that the bank scales AI on 'its Google partnership and a unified AI platform', with governance 'a strategic enabler of impact, not a brake'. In the US the record is mostly the Corporate Bank's AI credit process, investment-banking tools such as Farsight in North America, and Deutsche Bank Trust Company Americas acting as agent on AI data-centre financings. No separate US AI budget or US AI head is disclosed.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]

How much of Deutsche Bank's AI strategy applies to its US operations?
Deutsche Bank Trust Company Americas is a corporate trust, agency and corporate banking bank, not a retail lender, so the Private Bank targets that dominate the 2028 plan largely do not reach it. Its visible AI exposure is as a service provider: it was administrative and collateral agent on a $610 million financing for a Virginia data centre leased to CoreWeave in April 2025, and the group led the debt in 5C's $835 million raise for North American AI data centres in July 2025.[8][15]
Group tools reach US staff through the Corporate and Investment Bank. Farsight said in October 2026 that its on-premise platform is deployed across Investment Banking and Capital Markets teams in Europe and North America, and the US economics team used the in-house dbLumina in a March 2026 inflation note. The Financial Research Agent the bank co-designed with Google Cloud starts in the Corporate Bank, with other business areas as 'potential future applications'.[7][16][17]
The newest agentic deployment, a Source of Wealth KYC tool announced on September 22, 2026, went live in the Singapore and Hong Kong booking centres with a wider Private Bank rollout planned; no US booking centre is named. The US entities remain under a July 2023 Federal Reserve consent order on sanctions and AML controls, which shapes how AI in financial-crime work can be introduced there.[18][19]
Not on the record: a US AI budget, a US AI head, or US-specific AI targets. Lisa McGeough, Head of the Americas since early 2026, has made no public remarks on AI that we found; group data chief Eugene Gilerson is based in New York.[20][21]
