FIS makes its AML investigations agent available to any US bank

For the BSA/AML officer at a US bank

FIS (NYSE: FIS) said on Oct. 15 that its AML Investigations Agent, built with support from Anthropic, is now commercially available to any U.S.-based bank, including banks that are not FIS clients.1

FIS said in its press release that, according to AnChain.AI (2025), analysts devote 40 to 60 percent of investigation time to assembling data before analysis can begin, and that the agent maps a customer's context against the alert before assembling evidence.1 The agent maps a customer's type, historical activity and expected behavior against the alert before it assembles evidence, according to FIS.1

At Amalgamated Bank, a design partner where the agent is now being deployed, FIS said the agent is projected to cut Level 1 alert review time by more than 90 percent, Level 2 case investigation time by approximately 98 percent and SAR narrative preparation time by more than 80 percent.1

Those figures are projections based on Amalgamated's analysis of its current workflows against the agent's expected capabilities, not measured results, according to the release.1

According to FIS, every output is a recommendation, no case can be closed without explicit analyst confirmation, each statement links to its source record, and recommendations, reasoning and the analyst's final decision are logged in an audit trail.1

The agent natively integrates with FIS Horizon and FIS Systematics, with FIS IBS planned next; FIS said it is designed to augment, not replace, a bank's existing monitoring and case management systems, and it runs in FIS' private cloud on Anthropic's Claude models.1

Why it matters

Banks that do not use FIS cores can now buy an AI investigations tool, but native integration is limited to Horizon and Systematics, so others should test how it connects to their own systems. The time-saving figures are projections from one bank, so validate whether analyst confirmation remains a real review of the evidence and the drafted SAR narrative, not a sign-off.

From the brief

Our take. Amalgamated's numbers are projections from a bank that helped build the agent, not results. If case review time falls 98 percent, your examiner will ask what the analyst still checks before signing the SAR.

Action. Model risk: Add the FIS AML agent to validation scope, testing sampled SAR narratives against their linked source records before any pilot.

What our records say

FIS is adding AI agents on top of its core banking, digital banking, card issuing and payments base, starting with an AML investigations agent built with Anthropic.1 It sells these services to banks under multi-year recurring contracts and delivers the agents inside FIS-run infrastructure rather than as standalone AI products.1 FIS describes a governed data and AI platform, "Orchestrated Intelligence", in which client data stays in FIS-controlled infrastructure and Anthropic's Claude models supply the reasoning.2
