Google releases Gemini 4 Argon AI model to developers and enterprises worldwide

For the CTO of a US regional bank

Google released its Gemini 4 Argon AI model on Oct. 13 to developers and enterprises worldwide through the API in AI Studio and the Gemini platform, the company said in a blog post.21

Reuters reported that Google is seeking to regain ground against OpenAI and Anthropic after months of delays and a leadership shakeup at its DeepMind lab; Google's blog post does not give a reason for the timing.12 Reuters also reported that Google said in September it no longer planned to release Gemini 3.5 Pro, and that DeepMind co-founder and CEO Demis Hassabis stepped aside.1

Google's launch price is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with cached input tokens at 95% off, and Google calls it an introductory price; Reuters reported that rates will double after November 30.21

Google AI Ultra subscribers can use Argon in Google Antigravity, and Ultra and Pro subscribers can use it in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search, according to Google.2

Google said it is beginning an expansion to hundreds of additional Fairwind Program partners, and Reuters reported that the program gives vetted cybersecurity defenders a version of Argon without its cyber guardrails.21

Google said teams using Argon in Antigravity increased agentic code submissions by more than 35% and reduced code rollbacks by nearly a third; Reuters named Deloitte, LexisNexis, Ambience Healthcare and Isomorphic Labs as early testers.21

Why it matters

Banks and fintechs piloting Argon through the API should budget for the reported price increase after November 30. Access to the version without cyber guardrails runs through Google's vetting of partners, so security teams that want it need to qualify for the Fairwind Program.

What’s next

Reuters reported that API rates will double after November 30; Google's blog post calls the current price introductory and does not give the new rates.12

From the brief

Our take. Google will hand an Argon version without cyber guardrails to hundreds more vetted defenders. Your red team should apply; attackers probing your old code may hold something similar. And the API price doubles after November 30.

Action. Security engineering: Apply for Google's Fairwind Program access and aim red-team testing at legacy code before the November 30 price increase.
