What should a bank look for in AI banking platforms software?
Banking-platform AI is the AI built into the core, digital-banking and loan-origination systems a bank already runs: agents and assistants from Fiserv, FIS, Jack Henry, Q2, nCino, Temenos, Backbase and Alkami. For most community and regional banks this is the most likely route to AI in production, bought as an add-on to an existing contract. The questions that separate providers are what is generally available versus announced, pricing for the AI modules, data access for the bank's own models, and lock-in.
Observations from how these products are sold and regulated, not advice.
01
Generally available versus announced
Platform providers announce agent frameworks well ahead of general availability. Check which features other banks run in production today.
02
Price of the AI add-on
AI modules are usually priced on top of the existing platform contract, per account or per user. Ask for the price at renewal.
03
Your data, your models
Check whether you can use your own models and data alongside the provider's, or only the provider's AI.
