Claude Duet research preview opens to US Pro and Max users via waitlist

For the head of digital banking at a US bank

Anthropic is offering Claude Duet, a research preview of Claude that users message like a person, to Pro and Max plan users with US accounts through a waitlist, according to its Help Center.1

The Help Center says Claude Duet runs on its own computer in the cloud, so it can keep working after the user closes the app, and it uses its own cloud browser for sites without a connector.1 The sources do not say why Anthropic chose a research preview or a waitlist, or when the waitlist opened.12

For payments, the Help Center says Claude Duet is designed to ask before each purchase, and each purchase uses a one-time card that only works for that purchase, with Link (Stripe's digital wallet) or Shop Pay (Shopify's wallet).1

The Help Center lists some actions as off-limits even with approval, such as trading securities, moving money between accounts, or accessing someone else's account.1

The Help Center says Claude Duet can make mistakes, such as misreading a thread or misjudging what's urgent, and tells users to review drafts and approval requests before confirming them.1

Claude Duet is included in Pro and Max plans at no extra cost during the preview, is not available on Team or Enterprise plans yet, and runs on Claude Opus 5.5, according to the Help Center.1

Why it matters

Customers who hold Pro or Max plans can now let an AI agent make purchases with one-time cards issued through Link or Shop Pay. The Help Center directs order and refund problems to the store and Link charge problems to the Link app, and its text as provided does not describe how disputes reach card issuers, so banks should check how such transactions appear in their dispute and fraud processes.

What’s next

Invitations go out in waves with no guaranteed date, and the Help Center says features can change during the preview and that Team and Enterprise plans are planned for later.1

From the brief

Our take. Claude Duet will buy things for your customers but refuses to move money between their accounts. The bank first meets it as a one-time card at checkout, approved in a chat the bank never sees.

Action. Card disputes: Define how claims citing a Claude Duet-approved one-time card purchase via Link or Shop Pay are adjudicated.
