OpenAI and JPMorganChase form AI partnership, Brockman says at WSJ event
For the CISO of a regional US bank
OpenAI co-founder and president Greg Brockman said on Nov. 4 at the WSJ Tech conference that the company has formed a strategic partnership with JPMorganChase to supply the bank with AI services, The Wall Street Journal reported, as relayed by PYMNTS.1
The sources do not say why JPMorganChase chose OpenAI or what the services will cost; PYMNTS cites the WSJ report and Brockman's post on X, not a company filing or press release.1 Brockman pointed to the JPMorgan Chase partnership as one example of the enterprise clients OpenAI is now winning, according to TechCrunch's account of his remarks.2
OpenAI will give the bank access to cybersecurity-focused models through its Daybreak program, the WSJ report said.1
According to the OpenAI website, Daybreak gives approved individuals and organizations access to OpenAI's advanced cybersecurity capabilities, plus security solutions, partners and support for protecting systems.1
In a post on X after the event, Brockman said the companies will explore how advanced AI can support the bank by helping engineers, security teams, employees and customers.1
Asked whether OpenAI could be IPO-ready next year, Brockman replied, "I think so. Yes," TechCrunch reported; separately, PYMNTS said the WSJ reported OpenAI had secured about $11 billion in commitments for its current round, against an initial target of $30 billion.12
For bank security and technology leaders, a large peer is getting access to a frontier vendor's cybersecurity models, which may shape vendor choices and expectations about AI-assisted defense. Daybreak access is limited to approved applicants, and the sources give no terms or criteria, so banks would need to ask OpenAI directly.
Our take. Daybreak is open to approved organizations, not just JPMorganChase. So a regional bank can apply, or it can tell its board why JPMorganChase's security team gets OpenAI's cyber models and its own does not.
Action. Information security: Ask OpenAI for Daybreak approval criteria and terms, and brief the board on whether the bank will apply.
