OpenAI models and Codex come to Google Cloud's Model Garden
For the CTO of a bank running on Google Cloud
Google Cloud said on Oct. 21 that it is launching OpenAI models in its Model Garden, with the models rolling out in private preview to select enterprise customers.2
Google Cloud said it wants customers to run agentic workloads across their choice of models and infrastructure, balancing cost, capability and performance.2 The launch follows OpenAI ending its cloud exclusivity agreement with Microsoft and debuting its models on AWS in April, according to AI Business.1
The models are GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, and customers can use them through Google Cloud APIs and connect local Codex CLI and Desktop workflows to the Gemini platform for inference, Google Cloud said.2
Google Cloud said OpenAI models are sold through Google Cloud Marketplace, so usage appears on a single Google Cloud invoice, draws down existing cloud commitments and counts toward Flexible Savings Plans.2
Google Cloud said prompts, context and outputs stay within the customer's data perimeter and are never used to train foundation models, while Zero Data Retention options and Confidential Compute are listed as coming soon.2
Google Cloud said OpenAI models will come soon to Gemini for business and Google Antigravity; it did not give dates for general availability or say how many customers are in the preview.2
A bank already on Google Cloud can test OpenAI models under its existing access controls, audit logging and cloud contract, so model choice alone is a weaker reason to add a second cloud. The models are portable, but the bank still depends on the cloud provider for governance and billing, and the preview features and unreleased security options need review before regulated workloads move.
Google Cloud said OpenAI models will be available soon in Gemini for business and Google Antigravity, and that Zero Data Retention options and Confidential Compute are also coming soon, without giving dates.2
Our take. The usual case for a second cloud was that it had the model you wanted. OpenAI now sells on all three big clouds. That case is gone, and your AI dependence now sits with one provider.
Action. Vendor risk management: Re-score cloud concentration risk for AI workloads now that OpenAI models run inside AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft.
What our records say
Plan: opening sentence on strategy, bullets on bank record, end with fourth-party exposure.1 Daily-brief numbers must not be combined with profile numbers in one sentence.1 ChatGPT Enterprise sells banks ChatGPT seats for employees and API access to its models, and in 2026 added on-site engineering deals, a financial-services edition built with investment-bank design partners, and a separately funded deployment company.1
