Emprise Bank names AI-native core vendor Maximum as design partner
For a community-bank CEO weighing a core conversion
Emprise Bank, more than 100 years old, has signed a design partnership with Maximum, a startup building a core banking system with AI built in. The model is simple. The core keeps core banking functions, deterministic and fully auditable. AI agents run the work around it inside set permissions. First traffic moves by the end of 2026, then migration in phases, with old systems running alongside. The target is ten times the customers in 24 months. The weak point is the vendor. Maximum raised a $30 million seed round late last year. Its founder sold Vault to Acorns and Power to Marqeta. That is a good record for selling companies. For a core vendor, it is also the first question to ask.
Our take. A bank over 100 years old is moving its core onto a startup with a $30 million seed round, aiming for ten times its customers in 24 months. Ask your own core vendor what its AI agents may touch.
Action. Vendor management: Ask your core provider for its written AI roadmap and the permission limits on agents that touch core records.
What our records say
FIS is adding AI agents on top of its core banking, digital banking, card issuing and payments base, starting with an AML investigations agent built with Anthropic.1 It delivers them inside FIS-run infrastructure rather than as standalone AI products.1 FIS describes a governed data and AI platform, "Orchestrated Intelligence", where client data stays in FIS-controlled infrastructure and Anthropic's Claude models supply the reasoning.2
