Customers Bank brings in Palantir to rebuild business deposit account opening

For the head of deposit operations at a regional bank

Customers Bank has partnered with Palantir Technologies to redesign deposit account opening for its business clients using Palantir's Foundry and AIP platforms, FinTech Global reported on Oct. 16.1

According to FinTech Global, the bank wants account opening to keep pace with the speed of its business clients while it scales onboarding volumes and preserves personal service.1 Palantir is not delivering an off-the-shelf product; it has placed its own engineers inside the bank's internal AI engineering and technology teams, working on the bank's existing data and systems, FinTech Global reported.1

The two companies plan to apply AI and automation to document gathering, verification of business entities and consolidation of risk signals, combined into a digital application process that runs in real time, according to FinTech Global.1

Deposits at the bank have risen 15% over the past year, and the number of client deposit accounts has climbed by more than 17% over the same period, FinTech Global reported.1

Customers Bancorp president and CEO Sam Sidhu said: "This initiative is another step toward our goal: becoming the AI-native leader in banking."1

The article did not give a launch date, contract terms, costs or the number of Palantir engineers involved.1

Why it matters

Buying a platform does not remove the work of mapping a bank's own records, and here the vendor's engineers are doing that work inside the bank. Banks weighing similar deals should decide up front what the vendor learns about their data and systems, and how much capability stays in-house.

From the brief

Our take. Customers Bank grew deposit accounts more than 17% in a year and answered by seating Palantir engineers inside its own teams. Your choice is no longer buy or build; it is who owns the code when the visitors leave.

Action. Deposit operations: Time each business onboarding step, including document collection, entity verification and risk checks, end to end before any vendor pitch.
