Embat integrates J.P. Morgan Payments API to shorten bank account onboarding
For the treasury services head at a regional bank
Embat, a treasury and cash management provider, announced on Nov. 4 that it has integrated J.P. Morgan Payments' new Banking Authorisation Service (BAS) API, letting shared customers connect J.P. Morgan accounts to its treasury software.13
Embat said in a news release that connecting a treasury platform to a bank has traditionally required certificates from an external certification authority, which often meant extensive implementation time, data validation and signatures that can take months.3 Under the new setup, Embat uses its own certificates for each J.P. Morgan Payments connection, according to FinTech Global, which removes the external certification step.1
Embat said the integration lets clients authenticate and connect J.P. Morgan accounts in seconds with no IT development, though co-CEO Antonio Berga said the process is now "operational within days" and that clients sign legal documentation authorizing Embat to access their accounts.13
Companies with several subsidiaries can use J.P. Morgan Payments' multi-tenant certificate management to apply a single security configuration across entities instead of repeating the connection process for each one.13
Factorial and Cazoo are among the first joint customers, according to FinTech Global.1
Embat said it will be the first treasury management system to use J.P. Morgan Payments' own user interface through the API integration, according to PYMNTS, which cited an Embat news release.3
Bank connectivity is a vendor-selection factor for corporate clients, and a bank that lets treasury software skip third-party certification can shorten client onboarding. Banks without a comparable authorization route may face pressure from corporate customers and treasury software providers.
Our take. A corporate client can now link its J.P. Morgan accounts to Embat in seconds, while linking yours may still take months of certificates and approvals. Guess which bank's balances the CFO checks first.
Action. Treasury services: Time corporate TMS and ERP connection onboarding end to end, and list each certificate and approval step that could be removed.
