Sentra raises $150 million in round led by Capital One Ventures
For the CISO of a regional bank
Sentra, a data security company based in New York and Tel Aviv, said on Nov. 4 that Capital One Ventures led a $150 million strategic investment in the company, according to its press release.1
Sentra says AI agents are scaling fast, access data continuously at machine speed, and have no central control plane, while only a small minority of large organizations have governance to control what agents can access.1 Rather than inspecting each agent request as it happens, Sentra said it protects data at rest across cloud, SaaS, data warehouses and on-prem file shares, and governs the data and access agents depend on ahead of time.1
A Capital One representative will join Sentra's board of directors, Sentra said in its press release, and Capital One Ventures joins existing investors Bessemer Venture Partners, Zeev Ventures, Standard Investments, Munich Re Ventures and Key1 Capital.1
SiliconANGLE reported that the round is a Series C and that Sentra did not disclose a valuation; the press release does not name the round or give a valuation.12
Sentra said the platform maps what people, service accounts and AI agents can reach, including inherited access, enforces least privilege for non-human identities, flags unusual access to sensitive data, and can automatically revoke access and remove risky sharing.1
Sentra said it grew more than 300% year over year and will use the funds for product work and to expand field and channel programs and enter new geographies; SiliconANGLE reported investors have put more than $260 million into the company since 2021.12
Access reviews at banks that list only people may miss the agents and service accounts that already reach sensitive data, including through inherited permissions. Capital One's backing shows a large bank investing in this control area, though the sources do not say whether Capital One uses Sentra's product.
Our take. Capital One now sits on the board of a company whose pitch is that each AI agent is a new identity. If your access reviews list only people and service accounts, your agents are not on the list.
Action. Identity and access management: Add AI agents and their inherited permissions to access reviews and least-privilege checks before any agent reaches production.
