What proprietary AI has Regions built in-house?
Regions builds machine-learning 'data products' in-house and, since the fourth quarter of 2025, its own generative-AI gateway. The data-product model dates to 2018, when chief data and analytics officer Manav Misra arrived; by November 2022 MIT Sloan Management Review counted more than 10 revenue-generating or cost-saving products with an incremental financial impact in the eight-figure range. The best known is RegionsClientIQ (RCLIQ), a machine-learning application for commercial bankers that flags attrition and credit risk, estimates share of wallet and plans calls; it had 100% adoption among target users in 2022 and gained a generative-AI copilot in the first quarter of 2026, on insights the bank says influenced over 35% of new business. Regions Voice of the Customer (rVoice) uses natural language processing on customer feedback and saved over $1 million a year in vendor payments. In-house teams also build predictive fraud models. ATLAS, launched in 4Q 2025, is a governed, model-agnostic gateway with multiple LLM access; Regions has not named the models behind it. The August 2026 investor deck lists 'Modern core and proprietary AI tools' as a competitive advantage, alongside ARC, a refinance calculator that analyzes more than 100 million repricing scenarios in under five minutes. Office and developer copilots are bought from GitHub and Microsoft.[1][2][3][4][5]

Who builds AI at Regions?
Manav Misra's Data and Analytics organization. When he arrived in 2018 he found data scientists handing models off for others to deploy and few in use, so he created data products, defined as 'an end-to-end software solution to a problem that the business has', and a data product partner role assigned to each business or support unit. Product teams combine data scientists, data managers, data visualization experts, user interface designers and platform and infrastructure developers, and partners measure baseline and post-launch results.[1]
Misra told an IBM keynote that the first data project Regions built delivered tens of millions of dollars in additional revenue while saving losses, and that later products help reduce fraud, assist commercial bankers and wealth advisors and give insights into consumers. Regions worked with IBM's Data and AI Expert Labs and IBM Cloud Pak for Data on monitoring data and model drift.[7]
In fraud, Bobby McAuliffe manages a Data Products team that partners with Financial Crimes Detection and Prevention, and Sean Zhang's team develops and supports the AI models. In October 2026 Regions created a Divisional Chief Information Officer of Enterprise Technologies role, filled by Steve Aufderheide, to bring together teams focused on data, AI and automation. Misra was named Chief Analytics Officer of the Year by MachineCon in 2025.[3][8][9]
What does Regions build and what does it buy?
Machine learning is built. Misra told Citi's FinTech conference in November 2025 that Regions has taken 'a product-based approach to building out solutions for our business units that leverage data, leverage machine learning, traditional AI' for six or seven years, and said of RCLIQ, 'we built out a product that we call Regions Client IQ'. In April 2026 he said Regions is 'building Machine Learning and AI–enabled Data Products to address priority challenges'.[6][10]
Generative AI is assembled. ATLAS is Regions' own gateway, but it is model-agnostic and routes to external large language models; Misra said the generative-AI framework is designed so that sensitive data does not leave the bank to train external models. Productivity copilots come from GitHub and Microsoft. The August 2026 investor deck still lists 'Modern core and proprietary AI tools driving efficiencies and growth' among Regions' competitive advantages.[4][6][5]
What has Regions not disclosed about its in-house AI?
Regions has not named the large language models behind ATLAS or the RCLIQ copilot, how many data scientists or data products it has today, or adoption and savings figures for its data products since the 2022 MIT Sloan account. The bank has described no foundation model of its own.[5][1]
No patent protects a named Regions AI system. The patent Google Patents lists under Regions Bank as current assignee, US11861690B2, is a method and system for transferring funds.[11]

Does Regions build its own AI models?
Yes, for machine learning. Since 2018 Regions' Data and Analytics team has built 'data products' such as RegionsClientIQ and Regions Voice of the Customer, and in-house teams build predictive fraud models. For generative AI it built its own gateway, ATLAS (4Q 2025), which gives access to multiple external large language models; Regions has not described a foundation model of its own.
What is RegionsClientIQ?
A machine-learning application for commercial bankers and client teams, also called RCLIQ. It gives early attrition alerts, monitors credit risk, estimates Regions' share of wallet, prioritizes leads and suggests call plans and pricing. MIT Sloan Management Review reported 100% adoption among target users in 2022, and a generative-AI copilot was added in the first quarter of 2026.
What is ATLAS at Regions?
Regions' generative-AI gateway, launched in the fourth quarter of 2025. Investor decks describe it as an enterprise-grade, governed platform with a model-agnostic architecture and multiple LLM access, with use cases grouped into six patterns from enterprise knowledge to AI-powered cyber defense. Regions has not named the model providers behind it.
Who leads AI at Regions?
Manav Misra, chief data and analytics officer since 2018, whose team builds the bank's data products. Dan Massey is chief enterprise operations and technology officer, and since October 2026 Steve Aufderheide has been Divisional CIO of Enterprise Technologies, a new role that brings together teams focused on data, AI and automation.
How much value has Regions reported from its in-house AI?
In November 2022 MIT Sloan Management Review reported more than 10 revenue-generating or cost-saving data products with an incremental financial impact in the eight-figure range, and over $1 million a year in vendor payments saved by Regions Voice of the Customer. Regions' first quarter 2026 deck says AI-powered insights in RCLIQ have influenced over 35% of new business.
