Oracle and OpenAI launch ChatGPT plugins for Oracle enterprise applications
For the CIO of a bank running Oracle Fusion
Oracle announced on Oct. 27 at its Oracle AI World event in Las Vegas a collaboration with OpenAI that includes Oracle AI Workspace, which uses plugins in ChatGPT to let employees work with Oracle applications and data.1
Oracle said in a press release that the offerings combine OpenAI models, ChatGPT and Codex with Oracle's applications, data and cloud infrastructure so AI can work across customers' systems and operations.1 Oracle's blog post says the aim is to move businesses from AI that answers questions to AI that carries out work across their systems.2
According to Oracle, employees can use the plugins to access information, complete approved business workflows and take action alongside Oracle systems, and can describe a business goal for the plugins to assemble the right Oracle tools and information.1
Oracle said Oracle AI Workspace is designed to connect Oracle Fusion Applications, Oracle NetSuite, Oracle AI Database, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and other enterprise tools and data sources, while maintaining governance, approvals and controls.1
Oracle's blog says Workspace uses unified sign in, consistent security and existing permissions; the sources do not say how approval rules are configured or which OpenAI models are used.21
Oracle AI Security Mesh, a managed service using OpenAI cyber models, lets customers define where testing is authorized and control its scope, Oracle said, while Oracle manages safeguards against outages or disruption during testing.1
Banks that run Oracle Fusion, NetSuite or OCI may find an OpenAI model sitting inside those workflows, which raises vendor, third-party risk and access-control questions. Permissions and approval settings will determine what the agents can do, so those settings need review.
Our take. ChatGPT plugins will be able to complete approved workflows inside Oracle Fusion, where your ledger and purchase orders live. The same release says it is not a commitment to deliver anything. Settle the model-risk and vendor review before the demo.
Action. Third-party risk: Add OpenAI as a fourth party in Oracle Fusion vendor reviews and map which ledger and procurement workflows plugins could execute.
What our records say
ChatGPT Enterprise sells banks ChatGPT seats for employees and API access to its models, and in 2026 added on-site engineering deals, a financial-services edition built with investment-bank design partners, and a separately funded deployment company.1 The Enterprise workspace offers expanded context, SCIM, EKM, role-based access, custom data retention, data residency in ten regions, 24/7 priority support and custom legal terms, sold on custom pricing.2
