Nubank completes Cardamon AI compliance rollout, denies Monzo deal talks

For the fintech partnerships head at a sponsor bank

Nubank completed the rollout of Cardamon's artificial-intelligence compliance platform across every jurisdiction in which it operates in early October 2026, according to Crowdfund Insider.1

Crowdfund Insider reported that Nubank selected the London-based vendor earlier in the year; Cardamon's tools read applicable rules, identify obligations for a given institution and map them to product requirements.1 Amanda Hauch F. Silva, a compliance specialist at Nubank, described the arrangement as a way to strengthen regulatory capacity and speed decisions while the bank builds a large-scale compliance function.1

Cardamon says the process can be completed up to twenty times faster than conventional systems or fully manual reviews; that figure comes from Cardamon itself.1

In a Sept. 30 securities filing, Nubank said it is not pursuing a transaction with Monzo, and that its capital-allocation approach is unchanged, according to Crowdfund Insider; shares recovered nearly 7 percent in New York trading after the statement.1

On Sept. 10, Nubank said it would offer US products through a partner-bank structure, with deposits held at FDIC-insured Lead Bank; the OCC conditionally approved a national bank charter in January, and applications with the Federal Reserve and the FDIC remain pending.1

The initial US lineup includes savings accounts yielding 3.50 percent, a no-fee credit card with 1.5 percent cash back and fee-free international transfers; Nubank reports more than 140 million customers and operates in Brazil, Mexico and Colombia.1

Why it matters

Nubank is treating regulatory mapping as a scaling constraint and is buying software to address it as it adds markets. Banks that expand across jurisdictions may weigh similar tools, though Cardamon's speed claim is the vendor's own and unverified.

What’s next

Co-founder Cristina Junqueira has indicated that direct US operations under the charter could begin next year, while the Federal Reserve and FDIC applications remain pending.1

From the brief

Our take. A sponsor bank that treats fintech compliance as a pre-launch check will become the bottleneck. Require partners to map applicable rules to product requirements and audit evidence before adding accounts, cards or transfers.

Action. Fintech partnerships: Require product requirements and audit evidence that map applicable rules before approving new partner products.
