What technology stack does Truist run on?

Truist's stack is the product of the 2019 BB&T and SunTrust merger. Rather than convert to one bank's systems, then-CIO Scott Case's team chose components ecosystem by ecosystem: BB&T's deposit platform, SunTrust's mortgage origination with BB&T servicing, and a deposits ecosystem of more than 100 applications. It built new mobile and online banking from scratch, plus a patent-pending 'digital straddle', a cloud and API layer that let clients of both heritage banks use one Truist app before the back-end conversions. The last and largest core conversion, moving nearly seven million SunTrust clients, ran over Presidents Day weekend in February 2022 and was followed by a jump in complaints. On cloud, consumer-technology CIO Ken Meyer said in March 2022 that 'most workloads' ran on AWS, with Microsoft in insurance and Google's Apigee for open banking; by January 2023 Truist had more than 250 cloud service provider accounts and a multicloud strategy. Data sits in Snowflake with Qlik managing the pipelines (June 2025), alongside the Zaloni Arena governance platform Truist bought in August 2022. CIO Steve Hagerman, in the role since October 2024 and running an organization of more than 10,000 full-time employees, spent his first year stabilizing risk systems and deployed more than 50 AI use cases in 2025. On October 19, 2026 Truist and Infosys said its Hyderabad Global Capability Center would onboard more than 1,000 colleagues. Truist has not published the share of its workloads in the cloud.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]

Does Truist build or buy its technology, and what has it not disclosed?

Meyer said that in 2016 the bank was 'very dependent on third parties' for application development and set out to become 'a software engineering shop, which is a different mentality than being an integrator of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software applications'. He also warned that cloud is 'not always cheaper' if it is not done properly and usage is not controlled.[5]

Truist built both its new digital channels and the straddle's data utility in-house. Cornerstone Advisors' Sam Kilmer told American Banker in 2021 that he could not think of another merger in which the banks built new online banking as part of the process, and that building such a utility entirely in-house is rare.[1]

The India hub follows the same direction: the October 2026 announcement says the model is 'designed to reduce third-party dependency' and to integrate AI, technology, data and operations in one delivery framework, using Infosys's build, operate and transfer approach.[9]

Not disclosed: the share of workloads in public cloud today, the current split between AWS, Microsoft and Google, the vendor behind the deposit core, or a core-replacement plan. Wells Fargo analyst Mike Mayo wrote in September 2026 that Truist 'still seems behind on technology and customer acquisition'.[5][14]

Which cloud does Truist use?

Several. In March 2022 consumer-technology CIO Ken Meyer said most Truist workloads ran on AWS, that it worked with Microsoft in insurance and used Google's Apigee for open banking. By January 2023 Truist had more than 250 cloud service provider accounts and described a multicloud strategy. It has not published a current cloud share.

What was Truist's digital straddle?

It was a cloud and API layer Truist built after the BB&T and SunTrust merger: a common user-experience layer over both heritage back ends that let clients use the new Truist app before their accounts were converted. Truist applied for a patent on it, and about 6 million clients had moved onto the platform by October 2021.

What core banking system does Truist use?

After the merger Truist chose the heritage BB&T deposit platform, inside a deposits ecosystem of more than 100 applications, and finished its last core conversion in February 2022. It has not named the core vendor or published a plan to replace the core.

What data platforms does Truist use?

Truist stores data in Snowflake, with Qlik managing its AI data pipelines, according to its consumer chief data officer in June 2025. It also owns the Arena data-governance platform, acquired from Zaloni in August 2022 for governance, metadata management and AI and machine learning work.

What is Truist's Global Capability Center in India?

It is Truist's technology and operations hub in Hyderabad. On October 19, 2026 Truist and Infosys said they were expanding it, consolidating work from multiple Indian suppliers into one AI-first model and onboarding more than 1,000 colleagues. CIO Steve Hagerman called it 'a strategic investment in Truist's future'.
