Adclear AI cuts NatWest marketing approval time by 80%

For the chief compliance officer overseeing marketing review

NatWest has cut the time it takes to approve marketing content by 80% since building Adclear's AI compliance checks into its marketing approvals flow, RegTech Analyst and FinTech Global reported on Oct. 29.12

Each NatWest product line, covering current accounts, credit cards, loans, mortgages and savings, developed its own review routine and tools, and those processes clashed when the bank moved its marketing onto one central workflow system, according to RegTech Analyst.1 More material was passing through fewer central compliance teams, which threatened to slow the business; manual review can delay launches by three to five days, the report said.12

Adclear checks website, social, marketing and advertising material in real time and flags copy, creative or disclosures that fail regulatory requirements before publication, according to RegTech Analyst.1

The tool plugs into NatWest's Workfront system, so everyone involved in approvals follows the same process regardless of product or channel.12

The project is part of NatWest's five-year data and AI transformation programme with Accenture, which is helping connect Adclear's checks to the bank's broader technology stack.12

Both reports say FCA interventions on financial promotions doubled over the past year; neither gives error rates or says how the 80% was measured, or over what period.12

Why it matters

Faster approval does not show better compliance, and the reports give no error-rate data. For a US bank, the consistent audit trail across products and channels is the part examiners are likely to test, more than the speed figure.

From the brief

Our take. NatWest cut approval time 80% by putting AI checks inside the workflow its marketers already use. Speed is the easy part to copy; the record of who approved what, and why, is what your examiner will ask for.

Action. Marketing compliance: Pull 20 recently approved ads and confirm each file shows reviewer, rule checked, disclosure changes and sign-off date.

What our records say

NatWest treats AI as the engine of "bank-wide simplification", combining an OpenAI partnership, AI tools for all 60,000 colleagues and its Cora assistant, with results including 7.1 million Cora conversations in the first half of 2026, 3.8 million fulfilled entirely digitally.1 NatWest was the first UK bank to collaborate with OpenAI (Mar 20, 2025), citing more than 275 AI projects explored and around 25 use cases in production.2
