Backbase launches AI agents to speed up banking software delivery
For the CIO of a Backbase client bank
Backbase, an Amsterdam-based banking software provider, launched Delivery Factory, an AI-powered platform that pairs banking delivery teams with specialist AI agents across the development lifecycle, FinTech Global reported on Oct. 26.1
Backbase said the platform builds project context from approved requirements, architecture specifications, scoping documents and meeting notes, combined with its product expertise, instead of working mainly from existing code.1 According to the report, this shared foundation is meant to reduce the need to repeat requirements at each stage; the source is a single trade-press article, and the company's own press release was not among the sources provided.1
Backbase said teams using the platform across more than 10 implementations over the past year worked at twice the pace of conventional teams and 30% faster than teams using general-purpose AI coding assistants.1
Backbase reported an 80% reduction in effort on requirements and specifications, a 40% decrease in coding and review effort, and a 60% increase in testing and automation coverage; the company supplied these figures and they relate to its own implementations.1
A Business Analyst Agent turns project information into specifications, user stories and acceptance criteria for Jira, and a Solution Architect Agent prepares architecture proposals for review, while Backend, Mobile and Web Agents draft implementation plans based on the bank's version of Backbase's software.1
Engineers use their preferred coding tools to execute approved plans and verify code changes, work runs through banks' own repositories, development environments and pipelines, and delivery leads keep responsibility for scope, decisions and schedules; Backbase also introduced a Migration Agent and an Upgrade Agent, and said it aims to make upgrades routine rather than standalone projects.1
Vendor-reported speed gains are not yet independently verified, so banks buying Backbase implementation work should ask how contracts and pricing reflect them, and should keep their own review and sign-off controls on AI-generated plans and code. The Upgrade Agent may affect how banks plan and budget platform maintenance.
Our take. Backbase says its agents double delivery speed and cut spec-writing effort 80%. If your next statement of work bills the old hours, the vendor keeps the savings and your controls still review what the agents wrote.
Action. Vendor management: Before the next Backbase statement of work, require hours priced with Delivery Factory against the conventional-team baseline, plus SDLC review of agent-written specs.
What our records say
Backbase relaunched its platform as the AI-native Banking OS on April 22, 2026, and bought Kasisto on June 23, 2026 to add conversational and agentic AI.1 It sells banks and credit unions a platform that sits on top of their existing cores to run digital channels, employee workspaces and, since 2026, governed AI agents.2
