Last updated: Sep 24, 2026

*Sells banks, card processors and merchant acquirers a real-time machine-learning platform that profiles each customer's normal behavior to score payments, cards, checks, applications and AML activity; since the 2024 acquisition it is sold as a Visa solution and its technology is being folded into Visa products such as A2A Protect.*

## What is Featurespace, and which banks use it?

Featurespace, founded 2008 at the University of Cambridge, sells real-time behavioral fraud and AML scoring (The Featurespace Platform, formerly ARIC Risk Hub) to banks, processors and acquirers. Visa bought it in December 2024 for $946 million, and in September 2026 launched its first Featurespace-based product, a unified A2A Protect fraud score. Among our 100 banks, U.S. Bancorp's merchant-acquiring unit Elavon uses Featurespace, per a 2019 release and 2024 Payments Dive report. Pricing is not published; it is sold through quoted contracts.

A unified fraud and financial-crime platform built on Featurespace's Adaptive Behavioral Analytics and Automated Deep Behavioral Networks, with solutions for payment, card, check and application fraud, AML and merchant monitoring; Visa added it to its global value-added services as 'ARIC Risk Hub' in April 2025, and Featurespace's site says it protects 500 million consumers and processes 50.4 billion events a year (vendor-reported). ## Which rules apply to a bank using Featurespace?

- [Federal Reserve](https://www.bankingnewsai.com/ai-regulation/federal-reserve) — Featurespace's behavioral scoring models are quantitative models a bank uses in fraud decisions, so a bank deploying them is expected to inventory, validate and monitor them as vendor models under SR 26-2, including models trained on Visa network data it cannot inspect directly. See [SR 26-2](https://www.bankingnewsai.com/ai-regulation/documents/fed-sr-26-2).
- [OCC](https://www.bankingnewsai.com/ai-regulation/occ) — Buying the Featurespace Platform or A2A Protect makes Visa a third-party provider of a fraud control; OCC Bulletin 2023-17 covers due diligence, contract terms and exit planning for that relationship, and OCC Bulletin 2026-13 sets model-risk expectations for the vendor models. See [OCC Bulletin 2023-17](https://www.bankingnewsai.com/ai-regulation/documents/occ-bulletin-2023-17), [OCC Bulletin 2026-13](https://www.bankingnewsai.com/ai-regulation/documents/occ-bulletin-2026-13).
- [FinCEN](https://www.bankingnewsai.com/ai-regulation/fincen) — Featurespace's AML solution feeds suspicious-activity decisions, and its scam and account-takeover scoring targets the generative-AI fraud typologies in FinCEN's 2024 deepfake alert; the bank, not Featurespace, keeps the BSA filing obligation. See [FIN-2024-Alert004 (Deepfake Media)](https://www.bankingnewsai.com/ai-regulation/documents/fincen-alert-2024-deepfake-media).
- [CFPB](https://www.bankingnewsai.com/ai-regulation/cfpb) — When Featurespace's application-fraud score contributes to declining a credit application, ECOA/Regulation B and FCRA adverse-action notice duties apply to the bank's decision. See [ECOA / Regulation B adverse action (15 U.S.C. 1691(d); 12 CFR 1002.9)](https://www.bankingnewsai.com/ai-regulation/documents/cfpb-ecoa-regulation-b-adverse-action), [FCRA adverse action and credit-score disclosures (15 U.S.C. 1681m, 1681g(f))](https://www.bankingnewsai.com/ai-regulation/documents/cfpb-fcra-adverse-action-key-factors).
- [EU AI Act](https://www.bankingnewsai.com/ai-regulation/eu-ai-act) — For banks using Featurespace in the EU, AI used solely to detect financial fraud is carved out of the Act's high-risk credit-scoring category, but application-fraud scores that feed credit decisions need case-by-case review. See [Regulation (EU) 2024/1689](https://www.bankingnewsai.com/ai-regulation/documents/eu-ai-act-regulation-2024-1689).

## What the record suggests

### Pricing is not published

Featurespace and Visa give no plan prices or fees for the Featurespace Platform, ARIC Risk Hub or A2A Protect; buying goes through a quote.

### The buyer is now Visa

Since December 2024 contracts, roadmaps and support sit with Visa's risk and security business; Visa's first combined product arrived in September 2026, and Visa also agreed in August 2026 to buy BioCatch (pending), another fraud vendor in this category.

### Named large-bank customers are mostly outside the US

Featurespace's public references are HSBC, NatWest, Danske Bank, Akbank and processors such as TSYS and Worldpay; among our 100 US banks the only sourced link found is U.S. Bancorp's Elavon, and it dates from 2019 with a 2024 analyst-note mention.

### Results are vendor-reported

The NatWest, TSYS, Eika and A2A Protect percentages come from Featurespace or Visa and are measured against each customer's prior system; none was independently audited in the sources reviewed.

### Product names have changed

ARIC Risk Hub is now presented as The Featurespace Platform, and Scam Detect has become part of Visa A2A Protect, so older documents and contracts may use different names for the same capabilities.

## FAQ

### How much does Featurespace cost?

Featurespace does not publish pricing. Its website offers demos and contact forms rather than plans, and Visa's announcements of ARIC Risk Hub (April 2025) and the enhanced A2A Protect (September 2026) give no fees. The platform is sold through sales-led enterprise contracts, now as a Visa solution.

### Who owns Featurespace?

Visa owns Featurespace. Visa agreed to buy it on September 26, 2024 and completed the acquisition on December 19, 2024; Visa's FY2025 annual report puts the purchase consideration at $946 million. Featurespace sits in Visa's risk and security business and is led by Jason Blackhurst, Visa's global head of Featurespace and acceptance risk solutions.

### Which banks use Featurespace?

Featurespace names HSBC, NatWest, Danske Bank, Akbank and Permanent TSB, plus processors TSYS and Worldpay. Among the 100 largest US banks, the sourced link is U.S. Bancorp: its merchant-acquiring subsidiary Elavon built a European merchant fraud network on Featurespace's ARIC platform in 2019, and Payments Dive listed U.S. Bank's Elavon as a client in 2024. First Tech Federal Credit Union is a named US credit-union user.

### Is Featurespace a bank or a regulated financial institution?

No. Featurespace is a software business owned by Visa, a payments network, and is not a bank. Banks that use its fraud and AML scoring remain responsible for their own model-risk, third-party-risk and BSA/AML obligations, and treat Featurespace (Visa) as a third-party technology provider.

### What is ARIC Risk Hub?

ARIC Risk Hub is Featurespace's real-time fraud and financial-crime platform, now presented as The Featurespace Platform. It builds a behavioral profile of each customer and scores payments, cards, checks, applications and AML activity against it. Visa added it to its global value-added services in April 2025.

### What is Visa A2A Protect and how does it relate to Featurespace?

A2A Protect is Visa's fraud and scam scoring service for account-to-account payments. Featurespace's Scam Detect became part of it, and on September 1, 2026 Visa launched a unified A2A Protect fraud score it describes as its first in-market integration of Featurespace technology, delivered through a single API with plain-language reasons for each alert.

### How does Featurespace compare with Feedzai?

Both sell real-time machine-learning fraud and AML platforms to banks and processors. Featurespace is now owned by Visa and is being combined with Visa's network data, while Feedzai is independent and privately held. Neither publishes pricing, and both report customer results measured against the customer's prior system rather than independent benchmarks.
