### AI-generated 'Monzo Slots' and 'Barclays Slots' casino ads impersonate UK banks on social media

From June 2026, ads for unlicensed online casinos used Monzo's branding to promote a fake "Monzo Slots" app on TikTok, Facebook and Instagram. Monzo said the ads were not its own and called them an "AI-enabled scam where criminals take advantage of our much-loved brand to trick people", the Guardian reported in September 2026. Full Fact found that one image carried SynthID, an invisible watermark indicating AI generation, and that several videos had hallmarks of AI-generated content. The same wave used Barclays' branding: a Facebook ad for "Barclays Slots" featured an apparently AI-generated woman, and Barclays said it "does not endorse or have any involvement" with the material. Meta said it removed the ads the Guardian raised. No customer losses have been disclosed.
