On this site's AI disclosure index Webster scores 68.7 (#37 of 120 US banks), seventh in an eight-bank Northeast group, ahead of Flagstar (65.3) and behind TD Bank US (91.8), Santander US (87.2), Citizens (85.3), KeyBank (80), Valley (76.6) and M&T (75.5). The comparison now has a twist: Santander completed its $12.3 billion purchase of Webster on August 20, 2026, so Webster's own record ends there and its AI future is Santander's. On its own, Webster was early. Its final 10-K, filed February 27, 2026, said it was in the early stages of incorporating AI to raise employee productivity and had not yet deployed AI-driven systems in critical decision-making or client-facing processes. Its 2026 technology work was connectivity and automation: an open-banking connector on Plaid's Core Exchange for commercial clients went live in June 2026. Peers had moved further. KeyBank said in January 2026 that an AI-handled call costs about $0.25 against about $9 for a human one; Citizens' CiZi assistant cut mobile-banking call volume by 44%; TD says it essentially hit a C$200 million AI value target for fiscal 2026.
