USAA's AI intellectual property is filed by the parent, United Services Automobile Association, not by the bank. Its 2025 annual report to members counts more than 3,000 issued patents, more than 240 of them in AI, and USAA was issued 460 patents in 2024, ranking #101 on the Patent 300 list and first in insurance. Evident's tracker, reported by Insurance Journal in December 2025, counts 218 AI-specific patent filings by USAA since 2014 and names it the leader in the still-rare agentic-AI category. ## How does USAA organize its AI research and invention?

There is no separate research lab on the public record. AI work runs through pods of about 10 to 12 data scientists, engineers and product managers under chief data, analytics and AI officer Ramnik Bajaj, and USAA trains its own models, including computer vision for insurance images, alongside vendor models.
