## What is UMB's AI strategy, and what has it said about AI?

UMB Financial has published no AI strategy, platform, budget or use-case count; its record is a handful of executive remarks. The most concrete came from Uma Wilson, chief information, bank product and operations officer, who told American Banker in September 2025 that Enterprise Fraud Services, which she oversees, had added AI functions to streamline internal processes and was testing AI against payment fraud, with a completed proof of concept: 'Now we are commercializing that to make it a reality.' That came as her team finished converting Heartland Financial's systems in October 2025, the technology priority of 2025. Asked about AI on the April 29, 2026 earnings call, CEO Mariner Kemper said 'machine learning is being deployed across the whole organization' and called AI an overused term for using data and faster computing to run the business better; the operating efficiency ratio was 47.6% that quarter. UMB's investment team writes more about AI than the bank does about itself: in March 2026 it called the viral 'perfect storm' AI scenario improbable while accepting continued job disruption, and its market updates track AI's effect on markets and the labor market.
