## How is Truist using AI?

Truist spent its first years after the 2019 BB&T–SunTrust merger integrating systems and stabilising risk; its AI program is the second act. In 2025 the bank deployed more than 50 AI use cases across fraud, digital engagement, call centres, wholesale banking and operations, hired Pascal Belaud from Microsoft as chief AI and data officer, and saw nearly half of a 63% jump in patent filings come from AI inventions. CIO Steve Hagerman's framing is unusually concrete: AI agents as 'digital teammates' that are hired, trained, given more autonomy as their success rate rises, placed on corrective action when they exceed boundaries, and eventually retired — with the first formally joining his organisation in 2026. With Mike Lyons taking over as CEO in September 2026 after years of lacklustre post-merger results, AI is one of the few levers management has been willing to quantify.

## What AI partnerships and patents does Truist have?

Truist names few AI vendors. Personetics powers Truist Insights, Qlik manages its data pipelines into Snowflake, and it bought the Zaloni Arena data-governance platform in 2022 for its AI and machine-learning programs. Truist Ventures is an existing investor in the financial-AI platform Rogo. No cloud or model-provider contract with Microsoft, Google, OpenAI or Anthropic has been disclosed. On patents, four AI-related grants assigned to Truist Bank run from October 2024 to June 2026, and the bank says 48% of recent filings have an AI or machine-learning element. Pascal Belaud has been chief AI and data officer since November 24, 2025, after more than 25 years at Microsoft; he reports to Steve Hagerman, who has led technology, data and operations since October 28, 2024 and also oversees fraud management and care centres. Lo Li runs technology, data and operations for consumer banking, Harveer Singh is its chief data officer and Dontá Wilson owns Truist Insights and Truist Assist.
