*The bank inside a $580 billion-client-asset wealth and investment-banking firm whose CEO argues AI 'only increases the value of judgment, trust, and relationships', and whose research arm frames AI as a multi-trillion-dollar productivity supercycle.*

## How is Stifel Bank using AI?

Stifel Bank & Trust, the St. Louis state member bank owned by Stifel Financial with about $20 billion of assets, matters in this ranking because of the firm around it: a wealth-management and investment-banking group that posted the best second quarter in its history in 2026, with net revenues of $1.45 billion, net income to common of $217.2 million, or $1.34 per diluted share, record Global Wealth Management revenue of $957 million, record client assets of $580.1 billion, fee-based assets of $239.8 billion and bank loans of $24.8 billion after growing $2.6 billion in the quarter, mostly through fund banking. Chairman and CEO Ron Kruszewski uses the earnings calls to argue against the thesis that AI hollows out financial advice: 'AI is making information more abundant. That only increases the value of judgment, trust, and relationships,' he said in July, calling AI 'a tailwind to advice, not a headwind' and a productivity accelerator that surfaces more tax, estate and planning opportunities for advisers. The firm had said AI adoption would mean hiring fewer staff, but Kruszewski told analysts in July that AI is proving to be an accelerator of the business rather than a replacement for human costs, while its institutional group lifted pre-tax margins to 19.5% in the first half from 11% a year earlier after efficiency initiatives and a European restructuring. Stifel's investment strategists publish an AI outlook describing a multi-trillion-dollar productivity supercycle, and the firm was ranked first in employee-adviser satisfaction by J.D. Power for a fourth straight year. Its earnings decks have carried AI since mid-2025: 'Integrating AI Into the Stifel Platform' through agent-based models, with early successes in investment-banking analytics and adviser support (July 2025), AI first among four strategic topics (April 2026), and 'AI providing improved efficiencies' in data access, analysis and presentation preparation and back-office work (July 2026). Kruszewski's 2025 shareholder letter says AI agents already gather information and prepare analysis before advisers meet clients, and that 'we can get 80 hours of work done in 40'. The 2025 10-K says the firm uses, develops and incorporates AI and machine learning, including generative AI, within its technology platform and services (the FY2024 filing had said it did not use AI extensively), describes an AI risk management framework with a centralised inventory of AI technologies, and names chief operating officer David Sliney as leading technology 'with emphasis on cloud, data, and AI capabilities'. Stifel Bank & Trust is supervised by the Federal Reserve as a state member bank under Stifel Financial's holding company, led by chairman and CEO Christopher Reichert; the bank has disclosed no AI vendor, model or budget of its own, but its venture-banking division lends to AI companies, including a $35 million debt facility for senior-care platform Sage in July 2026, and is the banking partner of agentic-AI firm Kore.ai. Two AI application-security roles were open at headquarters in September 2026.

## What AI partnerships and patents does Stifel Bank & Trust have?

Stifel's public AI record names little. The CEO said in July 2025 that copilot tools were rolled out firm-wide and that seats on more sophisticated large language models were bought, without naming the providers, and the firm's data platform runs on AWS. No patent or published application assigned to a Stifel entity turned up in a Google Patents search, and no AI budget, model vendor contract or bank-level AI partner is public. ## Flagship platform: Stifel's advisor-first AI stance and fund-banking-driven balance sheet

Stifel Bank & Trust is the balance-sheet engine of Stifel Financial's Global Wealth Management segment, with bank loans of $24.8 billion at mid-2026 after $2.6 billion of growth in the second quarter alone, largely from fund banking, on a path to as much as $4 billion of expansion in the year. Chairman and CEO Ron Kruszewski has positioned AI as an accelerant for advisers rather than a replacement: 'AI is making information more abundant. That only increases the value of judgment, trust, and relationships.' The firm had previously said AI adoption would mean hiring fewer staff; on the July 2026 call he said AI is proving to be an accelerator of the business rather than a replacement for human costs, making advisers, bankers and analysts more productive at finding opportunities in tax, estate and planning work. Stifel's research publishes an 'Artificial Intelligence: Runway for Growth' outlook describing a 'supercycle of productivity with multitrillion-dollar effects on global GDP'. Its 2025 10-K says Stifel uses, develops and incorporates systems and tools that incorporate AI and machine learning, including generative AI, within its technology platform and services, and that it seeks to maintain an AI risk management framework with a centralised inventory of AI technologies, risk-based classification and security guardrails before deployment, and names chief operating officer David Sliney as leading technology and operations 'with emphasis on cloud, data, and AI capabilities'; neither the firm nor the bank has disclosed an AI budget or named an AI model vendor, beyond the CEO's July 2025 remark that 'copilot' tools were rolled out and that the firm bought seats on more sophisticated large language models. ## Key points

- CEO Ron Kruszewski: AI 'only increases the value of judgment, trust, and relationships'; a 'tailwind to advice, not a headwind'.
- Firm had said AI would reduce hiring; in July 2026 the CEO said AI is proving an accelerator rather than a replacement for human costs; institutional pre-tax margin up to 19.5% from 11%.
- Q2 2026: net revenues $1.45 billion (record second quarter); net income to common $217.2 million ($1.34); client assets $580.1 billion; ROTCE 23.6%.
- Bank loans $24.8 billion, up $2.6 billion in the quarter largely through fund banking; up to $4 billion of balance-sheet growth targeted for 2026.
- Stifel research: 'Artificial Intelligence: Runway for Growth' outlook on a productivity supercycle.
- No AI budget or named model vendor disclosed at the firm or bank level (the CEO referred to 'copilot' tools and unnamed large-language-model seats in July 2025); J.D. Power number one in employee-adviser satisfaction for four years.
- Earnings decks: agent-based models and early AI wins in banking analytics and adviser support (Q2 2025); 'AI providing improved efficiencies' (Q2 2026).
- Stifel Venture Banking lends to AI companies: $35 million facility for Sage (July 2026); banking partner of Kore.ai.
- The 10-K moved from 'we currently do not use AI extensively' (FY2024, filed 26 February 2025) to 'we use, develop, and incorporate' AI and generative AI in its platform (FY2025, filed 24 February 2026); uses of the term 'AI' rose from 0 (FY2023) to 26 to 57.
- July 2025 call: the CEO said copilot tools were rolled out firm-wide, the firm bought seats on more sophisticated large language models, he had personally identified about 70 workflows for AI, and the firm prefers customised off-the-shelf tools to building its own models; 'the biggest impediment to AI is bureaucracy'.
- Governance: the Written Information Security Program incorporates AI governance and is independently assessed; the board's Risk Management Committee oversees technology and cyber risk, receives cybersecurity reports at least four times a year and approves the programme annually; third-party AI contracts seek explainability and validation rights.
- Named owners: COO David Sliney leads technology and operations with emphasis on cloud, data and AI; Global Co-Head of Institutional Equities and Advisory Brad Raymond is credited in the 2026 proxy with spearheading the Institutional Group's AI strategy. No chief AI, data or information officer is named in the filings.
- April 2026 call: the CEO said the firm is 'in the early process of linking our data to these new tools', put software-loan exposure, the book most exposed to AI disruption, at about $500 million on a $43 billion balance sheet, and called cyber the first thing the industry must get right as frontier models such as Mythos arrive.
- AI and sweep cash: about $60 billion of client assets (11% to 12%) sits in short-term cash, of which about $7 billion is 'unsorted' transactional cash that agentic tools could target, according to the CEO in April 2026; no patents assigned to a Stifel entity turned up in a Google Patents search.

- [Federal Reserve](https://www.bankingnewsai.com/ai-regulation/federal-reserve) — Stifel Bank & Trust is a state member bank under a Fed-supervised holding company; SR 11-7 and SR 23-4 govern any AI in lending and vendor tools. ## What the record suggests

### The adviser thesis is the AI strategy

Stifel's bet is that AI raises the value of human judgment; the bank's job is to fund the relationships that judgment wins, which makes loan growth the metric to watch.

### Fewer hires is a disclosure that invites follow-up

Saying AI reduces support headcount, and then revising that view, without naming the tools leaves investors and examiners to guess at model risk in adviser workflows.

### SEC scope matters more than bank scope here

AI that shapes adviser recommendations sits under the SEC's conflicts and examination agenda before it reaches bank regulators.

### Fund banking is a data-rich niche

Capital-call and subscription lines generate structured data that suits analytics; nothing has been disclosed about using it.

## FAQ

### Does Stifel use AI?

Stifel Financial says AI is making its advisers, bankers and analysts more productive; the CEO had expected this to mean hiring fewer staff, but in July 2026 Ron Kruszewski said AI is proving an accelerator rather than a replacement for human costs, and argues AI increases the value of human judgment and relationships. Its shareholder letter says AI agents prepare analysis before advisers meet clients, and its FY2025 10-K says the firm uses, develops and incorporates AI and machine learning, including generative AI, within its technology platform and services and describes an AI risk framework with a centralised AI inventory. No AI budget or named model vendor has been disclosed for the firm or for Stifel Bank & Trust; the CEO said in July 2025 that copilot tools were rolled out across the firm.

### What is Stifel Bank & Trust?

The Missouri state member bank inside Stifel Financial's Global Wealth Management segment, with bank loans of $24.8 billion at mid-2026 and about $20 billion of assets. It grew loans by $2.6 billion in the second quarter of 2026, mostly through fund banking.

### Who leads AI at Stifel Bank & Trust?

No chief AI officer, chief data officer or chief information officer is named in Stifel's filings. The 2025 10-K says chief operating officer David Sliney leads technology and operations with emphasis on cloud, data and AI. Chairman and CEO Ron Kruszewski said in July 2025 that he is personally taking the lead on pushing through AI productivity changes. The 2026 proxy credits Global Co-Head of Institutional Equities and Advisory Brad Raymond with spearheading the Institutional Group's AI strategy. Christopher Reichert chairs and runs the bank, which has disclosed no AI programme of its own.

### Does Stifel name any AI vendors or hold AI patents?

Not by product. On the July 2025 call Kruszewski said copilot tools were rolled out and the firm bought seats on more sophisticated large language models, and that it prefers customised off-the-shelf tools to building its own models; he did not name the providers. Stifel's own data-platform post for AWS (July 2025) describes domain data products on AWS Glue and Lake Formation without naming an AI service. A Google Patents search on Stifel assignee names returned no patent or published application assigned to a Stifel entity.

### Do Stifel's 10-K and 10-Q discuss AI?

The 10-K does, and more each year: the FY2023 filing used the abbreviation AI zero times, FY2024 used it 26 times and said the firm did not use AI extensively, and FY2025 used it 57 times, says the firm uses, develops and incorporates AI and machine learning including generative AI, and describes an AI risk framework with a central inventory, risk-based classification and pre-deployment guardrails. The Written Information Security Program incorporates AI governance. A text search of the first-quarter and second-quarter 2026 10-Qs finds no AI language; the quarterly detail is in the earnings decks and calls.
