## Who are Société Générale's competitors, and what are the alternatives?

Société Générale competes as a French universal bank whose rivals change by business. In French retail its SG network serves nearly 8.5 million clients through around 1,400 branches and calls itself the leader of non-mutual players; the Financial Times groups it with traditional banks such as BNP Paribas and Crédit Agricole. Online, BoursoBank had 8.8 million customers at end-2025 and 8.9 million in March 2026; it faces BNP Paribas's Hello bank!, Crédit Mutuel Arkéa's Fortuneo, N26 and above all Revolut, which Reuters says competes with BoursoBank, aimed for 10 million French users and won a French banking licence on August 10, 2026. In markets, Société Générale's FICC revenue fell 18% in the first quarter of 2026 while JPMorgan's rose 21%, BNP Paribas was broadly flat and Deutsche Bank slipped 1%. In securities services (EUR 5,396 billion under custody) UniCredit moved its German and Italian custody to BNP Paribas, replacing Société Générale and Crédit Agricole's CACEIS. Société Générale's 2026 Universal Registration Document (filed March 13, 2026), risk factor 4.1.1.4, "Fiercer competition from banking and non-banking operators could adversely impact the Group's business lines and financial results, both on the French domestic market and internationally": "Given its international reach, the Group faces intense competition in the international and local markets in which it operates, from banking or non-banking operators alike. As such, the Group is exposed to the risk of not being able to maintain or develop its market share in its various activities. This competition may also lead to pressure on margins, which would be detrimental to the profitability of the Group's activities."
