## Who are Santander US's competitors, and what are the alternatives?

Santander Holdings USA's 2025 10-K, filed March 2, 2026, names four groups of primary competitors: national and regional banks, credit unions and independent financial institutions; digital and virtual banks; the affiliated finance companies of automotive manufacturers; and trust companies, asset managers, investment advisors and securities dealers. Those map onto its businesses. In Northeast retail and commercial banking, where its branches run from Massachusetts to Pennsylvania, the Webster acquisition completed on August 20, 2026 made Webster the No. 1 bank by Connecticut deposits ($42.7 billion), ahead of Bank of America ($41.9 billion), M&T ($19.0 billion), Chase, Wells Fargo and TD; Santander itself holds $36.6 billion of deposits in Massachusetts. In auto finance, its largest consumer business, the rivals are captive lenders, including Stellantis' own finance arm after the Chrysler Capital agreement ended on September 15, 2025, and bank lenders Ally and Capital One.
