## How is AI changing PNC's workforce?

PNC presents AI as the next stage of an automation program that has kept headcount flat while the bank grew. CEO Bill Demchak said on December 9, 2025 that headcount is the same as 10 years ago, when PNC was a third of its size, and that 'AI may well be an accelerant'; on the April 15, 2026 call he said 'AI allows that to continue.' He credited automation in retail and care-center operations with 30 points of operating leverage from 2022 to 2025 and expects another 40 points from AI by 2030, including headcount savings from agentic coding. The 2026 proxy says PNC deployed multiple generative AI platforms across the organization, including Microsoft Copilot, and president Mark Wiedman said in September 2026 that putting agents at the center of software development shows 5 to 10 times the productivity. Training runs through PNC University, which logged 4.2 million training hours in 2025 across more than 54,000 employees, and an AI Skills Academy launched in 2025 that has passed 24,000 learning completions, per PNC's careers site. At Money20/20 in October 2026 Demchak said the hardest part is 'the organizational design around it, retraining people, picking the right people', that much of the reduction will fall on offshore contractors rather than US employees, and that people kept in the loop 'become more valuable'.
