NBT's 2025 10-K, filed February 27, 2026, says it competes for loans, deposits and customers with commercial banks, savings and loan associations, brokers, mortgage companies, insurers, finance companies, money market funds, credit unions and other non-bank providers, and that technology 'has lowered barriers to entry'. Its 175 branches span upstate New York, northeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Hampshire, western Massachusetts, Vermont, southern Maine and Connecticut. Its closest rival is Community Bank N.A., with 192 full-service branches in the same upstate New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Massachusetts and New Hampshire markets and the same mix of benefits, insurance and wealth businesses. In Western New York, where NBT added Evans's 18 locations in May 2025, the larger rivals are M&T, headquartered in Buffalo with about 47% of its employees in New York, and KeyBank, whose branch regions include Western and Eastern New York.
