## Who are City National Bank (RBC)'s competitors, and what are the alternatives?

City National files no 10-K; its competition statement is in parent Royal Bank of Canada's 2025 annual report, which says the U.S. Wealth Management segment, including City National, competes with 'other broker-dealers, commercial banks and other financial institutions that service HNW and UHNW individuals, entrepreneurs and their businesses'. City National calls itself the largest bank headquartered in Los Angeles, with $100 billion of assets, 71 branches and private banking, entertainment, commercial and consumer lines (July 2026). Its home market is getting more crowded: BMO plans more than 130 new California locations over five years, Western Alliance's Entertainment and Media Group has underwritten about $1.4 billion of commitments since 2021, and East West and Banc of California are Los Angeles-area rivals. In private banking it competes with broker-dealers such as Morgan Stanley and Schwab, and it added 10 private bankers in California in August 2026 to serve high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients. Outside California, its December 2025 push into Charlotte and Greenville put it beside U.S. Bank, Huntington, PNC, Fifth Third and First Horizon, all expanding in the Carolinas, and RBC says Texas is next.
