## Who are Central Bancompany's competitors, and what are the alternatives?

Central Bancompany's 2025 10-K, filed March 25, 2026, says it faces competitive pressure from local regional banks, large national banks, credit unions and digital-only banks, and from mortgage and consumer finance companies, trust companies, brokerage firms and emerging fintechs. Its strength is in Missouri's smaller markets: S&P Global data for June 30, 2025 give it 54% of deposits in Jefferson City, 36% in Columbia and 39% in Sedalia. In the metro areas it targets for growth the position reverses. It holds 3% of Kansas City deposits, where Commerce holds about 10% and FNBO is building to 37 branches, and 2% in St. Louis, where Commerce holds about 7% and Busey runs 20 banking centers. In Oklahoma, BOK Financial holds 14% of state deposits; Central's share there rounds to 0%. UMB, the other Kansas City bank, also competes in health savings accounts, where Central ranks 18th. In wealth, Commerce Trust administers $94.5 billion against Central's $17.3 billion under advice. The non-bank rivals are clearest in two lines. Chime sells a branchless account to 10.4 million active members. In commercial cards, where Central is the 19th-largest corporate card issuer, Ramp and Brex sell spend platforms with AI agents, and Fifth Third has made Brex the provider of its commercial cards. ## What does Central Bank say about its competition?

"We face competitive pressures from other local regional banks, large national banks, credit unions and digital-only banks. In addition, we compete against mortgage and consumer finance companies, trust companies and brokerage firms, and emerging fintechs. We believe our advantage is strong local relationships and personalized services, commitment to technological innovation and brand recognition within the communities we serve. We intend to continue to strengthen our product offerings to address the evolving financial landscape and broaden our services through branch and ATM expansion." (Item 1, "Competition", 2025 Form 10-K, filed March 25, 2026.) ([Central Bancompany (SEC filings)](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/2065601/000162828026021067/cbci-20251231.htm))

From the risk factors of the same 10-K: "We face substantial competition in all areas of our operations from a variety of different competitors, many of which are larger and may have more financial resources than us. Such competitors primarily include national, regional, and community banks within the various markets where we operate. Recent regulation has reduced the regulatory burden of large bank holding companies, and raised the asset thresholds at which more onerous requirements apply, which could cause certain large bank holding companies with less than $250 billion in total consolidated assets, which were previously subject to more stringent enhanced prudential standards, to become more competitive or to pursue expansion more aggressively." ([Central Bancompany (SEC filings)](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/2065601/000162828026021067/cbci-20251231.htm))

"Also, technology and other changes have lowered barriers to entry and made it possible for non-banks to offer products and services traditionally provided by banks. In particular, the activity of fintechs, including those that focus on banking services and wealth management, has grown significantly over recent years and is expected to continue to grow. Some fintechs are not subject to the same regulation as we are, which may allow them to be more competitive. Fintechs have offered and may continue to offer bank or bank-like products and a number of such organizations have applied for bank or industrial loan charters while others have partnered with existing banks to allow them to offer deposit products to their customers. Increased competition from fintechs and the growth of digital banking may also lead to pricing pressures as competitors offer more low-fee and no-fee products." ([Central Bancompany (SEC filings)](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/2065601/000162828026021067/cbci-20251231.htm))

"Additionally, consumers can maintain funds that would have historically been held as bank deposits in brokerage accounts or mutual funds. Consumers can also complete transactions such as paying bills and/or transferring funds directly without the assistance of banks. In addition, the emergence, adoption and evolution of new technologies that do not require intermediation, including stablecoins, digital assets, blockchains, and others based on distributed ledgers, as well as advances in robotic process automation, could significantly affect the competition for financial services." ([Central Bancompany (SEC filings)](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/2065601/000162828026021067/cbci-20251231.htm))

On acquisitions, the same filing adds: "If we do seek acquisitions in the future, we expect that other banking and financial companies, many of which have significantly greater or more liquid resources, will compete with us to acquire financial services businesses. This competition could increase prices for potential acquisitions that we believe are attractive." Central names Texas, Colorado and Oklahoma as the faster-growing states where it looks for targets. ([Central Bancompany (SEC filings)](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/2065601/000162828026021067/cbci-20251231.htm))

In its metro growth markets, Commerce Bancshares (about 10% of Kansas City and 7% of St. Louis deposits), UMB, FNBO in Kansas City, Busey and Enterprise in St. Louis, and BOK Financial in Oklahoma. Arvest and Simmons overlap in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma. Central's 10-K also names large national banks, credit unions, digital-only banks and fintechs. ### Is Commerce Bank a competitor of Central Bank?

Yes, most directly in Kansas City and St. Louis. Commerce's 10-K puts its deposit share at about 10% in Kansas City and 7% in St. Louis; Central holds 3% and 2% there. Both are Missouri state member banks with large trust businesses: Commerce reported $94.5 billion of trust assets under administration, Central $17.3 billion under advice. BOK Financial is the largest institution in Oklahoma, with 14% of state deposits, 33% in Tulsa and 13% in Oklahoma City, and about 3% in Denver. FNBO is buying Denver's InBankshares, which takes it to 30 Colorado branches. Central's deposit share rounds to 0% in both states, where it holds $350 million and $411 million of deposits. ### Is Chime a competitor of Central Bank?

In everyday checking, yes by category: Central's 10-K names digital-only banks and fintechs among its competitors and warns of pricing pressure from low-fee and no-fee products. Chime's 10-K says its branchless model gives it a cost advantage over traditional banks; it had 10.4 million active members at June 30, 2026. Neither names the other. ### What are alternatives to Central Bank for business cards and treasury?

Among fintechs, Ramp reported more than 70,000 customers and $200 billion of annualized purchase volume in June 2026, and Brex, now part of Capital One, provides Fifth Third's commercial cards. Central ranks 19th among US corporate card issuers. Central ranks as the 18th-largest HSA provider (Devenir, December 31, 2024). UMB provides custodial services for health savings accounts to insurers, employers and financial institutions, and UnitedHealth Group's Optum Bank held $13.9 billion of HSA deposits at December 31, 2025 and added the Alegeus platform in July 2026. FNBO has been buying its way in: Country Club Bank ($2.2 billion of assets, announced May 2025) and Blue Ridge Bancshares (closed October 1, 2026), for 37 Kansas City branches after conversion. Central holds $3.13 billion of Kansas City deposits, a 3% share. On AI, FNBO scores 53.2 on this site's disclosure index against Central's 24.7.
