BankingNewsAI Bank AI Disclosure Index. Live ranking, recomputed from the bank pages; latest frozen edition: [Q4 2026](https://www.bankingnewsai.com/banks/ai-index/2026-q4). Data: [CSV](https://www.bankingnewsai.com/banks/ai-index/data.csv).

Bank of America leads with 97.3 of 100, followed by Citi, Amex, TD, Wells Fargo. 80 of the 120 have named an AI platform or programme; 17 have not disclosed an AI programme at all. The index measures disclosure, not capability.

## Which large US banks lead in AI and technology?

On the depth of the public record, the ten large US banks that lead on AI are BofA, Citi, Amex, TD, Wells Fargo, JPMorgan, BNY, Santander, Capital One and BMO: the top ten of this index, which scores the 120 largest US banks on what each has disclosed about AI and what outside outlets have reported. On Evident's AI index, which ranks the 50 largest banks in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific by AI capabilities, JPMorgan Chase was first and Capital One second in October 2025, the third edition running in which the two led; the other US banks in Evident's top ten were Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs and Bank of America. Neither ranking measures technology spending or technology leadership in general.

Evident's ranking: [American Banker, "JPMorganChase, Capital One top AI ranking, once again"](https://www.americanbanker.com/news/jpmorganchase-capital-one-top-ai-ranking-once-again), Oct 8, 2025.

## Why does this ranking differ from Evident's AI index?

They measure different things. Evident rates AI capability: it tracks banks' use cases, research papers, patents and ventures from public information and validates the ranking with some data banks supply privately. This index measures only the public record the bank's page on this site cites, ranked against the other 119 US banks, with 45% of the weight on independent coverage and the rest on use cases, platform, own disclosures, recent moves, numbers and leaders. A bank that does a great deal but describes few systems publicly scores lower here than on Evident. JPMorgan Chase, Evident's leader, is #6 of 120 here with 89.8 points: it sits at the 100th percentile on independent coverage and the 98th percentile on disclosed numbers, but its page records 8 AI use cases in production (of 16 described), which puts it at the 39th percentile on that component. Capital One, Evident's second, is #9 here.

## Which large banks lead in technology overall?

By disclosed technology spending, JPMorgan leads the large US banks (about $19.8 billion technology expense outlook for 2026, up 10%), followed by BofA, Citi and Amex. The technology leaders page ranks 8 large banks with a comparable published figure and adds technologist headcounts, cloud and platforms.

## How is the AI disclosure score calculated?

Every input is a sourced fact on the bank's page. On seven of eight components a bank receives its percentile rank among the 120 banks: 0 for the lowest, 1 for the highest, tied banks sharing the average rank. A named AI platform or programme is 1 or 0. The weighted sum is multiplied by 100.

| Component | Weight |
| --- | --- |
| Independent coverage (sources that are not own, vendor or wire) | 45% |
| Use cases in production | 10% |
| Named AI platform or programme (1 or 0) | 10% |
| Own primary disclosures: filings, earnings calls, releases, each counted once | 10% |
| Dated moves since Oct 21, 2025 | 10% |
| Disclosed numbers (spend, headcount, volumes, adoption) | 5% |
| Named AI or technology leaders | 5% |
| All use cases described, any stage | 5% |

A bank whose page records that it has not disclosed an AI programme, leader, vendor or budget is capped at 30 and kept below the lowest score of any bank that has disclosed one, so it ranks below all of them. Ties are broken by independent coverage, then by assets. The score does not judge how well a programme works, and it under-rates banks that build quietly. The ranking recomputes on every bank page update and is frozen as a dated edition each quarter.
