Last updated: Aug 26, 2026

The fourth joint Bank of England and FCA AI survey opened on 5 June 2026 and closed to firm responses on 31 July 2026. Building on the 2019, 2022 and 2024 editions, it is the first to cover foundation models, generative AI and agentic AI explicitly, and its results — expected later in 2026 — will be the first regulator dataset anywhere on agentic AI deployment in banks.

- Voluntary; aims to understand development, deployment and use of AI/ML including foundation models, GenAI and agentic AI.
- Continues the biennial series (2019, 2022, 2024) to build a longer-term picture of adoption.
- Committed to in both 1 April 2026 BoE/PRA letters and supported by the FPC, which asked for further work on agentic AI in payments and markets.
- 2024 baseline: 75% adoption, 17% foundation-model share, one third third-party implementations, 2% fully autonomous use cases.

## What changed for banks

The 2026 edition extends the UK's core AI monitoring tool to agentic systems. Its findings will feed the FPC's next financial-stability assessment and the PRA's decision on whether to add guardrails beyond SS1/23.
