# What banks announced about AI agents in Q3 2026

53 banks, 102 dated moves (July to September 2026): 23 in production, 8 rolling out, 11 pilots, 60 announcements. Most active: Amex (7), Capital One (5), CIBC (5), ING (5), HSBC (4).

## The quarter

In the third quarter of 2026, banks made 101 recorded moves on AI agents across 53 banks, led by Amex with seven and Capital One, CIBC and ING with five each. In production, DBS rolled credit-memo agents out to about 1,500 bankers on August 19, UBS reported 560 live AI use cases on July 29, and NatWest reported five agents live on July 31. BofA's EricaAssist cut average call time by nearly a minute on July 21, and Customers Bank reported 600 agents and 46,000 hours saved on July 23.

In payments, BBVA made its first AI-agent-initiated card payment with Visa on July 2, the day ING ran a live agentic payment pilot in Germany; HSBC and Visa completed a live agentic card transaction on July 15; and DBS signed an agentic-commerce memorandum with Stripe on August 27. On September 22, Capital One, ING, NatWest and BofA joined two other banks in publishing agentic-commerce principles.

BofA's Moynihan said on September 14 that the bank keeps agents under control rather than 'left to operate', and JPMorgan joined an Nvidia-led open-source agent safety effort on September 28. Deutsche Bank put a source-of-wealth KYC agent live in Singapore and Hong Kong on September 23, and TD Bank Group said on September 9 that a collections agent lifted its connect rate to between 20% and 25% from 7%. At quarter end, the BNP Paribas agent partnership with Google Cloud, Santander's A2K protocol and ServisFirst Bank's Covecta deployment were still at the announcement stage.
